The Instructors

I’m Maddy and I have been riding horses since I was 8 years old in 2008! I have been at Manitou Hill Farms for the past ten years now, and have learned everything I know from the wonderful people I’ve been lucky enough to come into contact with here. Everyone has always been so kind and welcoming, I feel so blessed to be part of a barn family like Manitou’s and I can’t imagine being a part of anywhere else. I have been teaching lessons since 2017 and started helping out with summer camp in 2015. My favorite horse at the barn is Westley, and my favorite lesson horse is Indy who I worked with after he first got to Manitou. I am currently going to college at SUNY Geneseo as a bio major with a minor in the Edgar Fellows Honors Program. My lifelong goal is to become a veterinarian.

I’m Tessa and my journey with horses started at Manitou Hill Farms when I was 6 years old in 2004. Manitou quickly became my favorite place to be! I started teaching in 2013. I adore getting to know your kids and being someone they can look up to while their own horse journey begins, because I was so lucky to have those people when I was young. The people you meet here turn into family! In 2010, I met a lesson horse named Jack, who became my best friend. In 2016, I asked Jane if I could buy him and she agreed! I will forever be thankful to Jane for giving me the opportunity to own my heart horse. So he’s obviously my favorite horse at the barn, but my favorite lesson horse is Rebel! Aside from teaching lessons, Jack and I are going to gaming shows, and I also work at a dog kennel where I get to help dogs find new homes. In the future, I’d like to continue to rescue animals and go further with gaming!

I’m Andrea but a lot of people around the Barn call me Dre, I have been riding since I was 7 years old. My very first lesson was here at Manitou Hill Farms back in 1995. I guess you could say I grew up here. My favorite horse in the barn is Hemi but I also own him so I am a little biased. My favorite lesson horse is Lucy because Lucy and I have spent a lot of hours teaching together. Lucy is the perfect lesson horse in my opinion. I work full time at the University of Rochester but try to spend as much time as I can at the barn. I ride both English and Western and I love Trail Riding. I always try to make my riding lessons both fun and informative. When I am not teaching I like to compete at local shows with my own horse. My goals are to work hard and enjoy the ride!

I’m Catherine, a lesson instructor and camp counselor here at Manitou Hill Farms, and I’m so glad you’re considering joining us for camp or lessons! I was only six when my mom first signed me up for leadline lessons here at Manitou back in 2006, and the hardworking people of this barn have been stuck with me ever since! In all seriousness, I wouldn’t trade these past fourteen years for anything in the world. I’ve not only learned to ride here at Manitou, but have formed fierce friendships and learned countless life lessons along the way, such as patience, humility, and how horses are the best listeners! While I have yet to own a horse of my own, I’ve been lucky enough to lease and work with some great horses through the years. At the top of that list is the handsome boy you see in my picture, Duncan, one of our star lesson horses who you could have the opportunity to ride! Witnessing the impact horses like Duncan have on my students is immensely rewarding, and it was the growth exhibited by such kiddos that inspired me to go pursue English Education at Niagara University. I owe so much to the staff, students, and horses here at Manitou, and hope someday you will get to experience that sense of community as well.

I’m Hailey and I have been riding horses at Manitou Hills farms for 5 years now. I started as a summer camp kid and quickly fell in love, taking lessons once a week for a few years. I was determined to learn everything I could about horses, because I knew for my first job I wanted to be a counselor and teach kids to ride and love horses. I became a junior counselor in 2017 and started teaching lessons in 2019.  I have been so fortunate to meet some amazing people and become so close with my fellow instructors. This barn truly is one big family and I am so grateful to be a part of it. My favorite horse in the barn is Duncan. He was the first horse I ever rode and I guess you could say it was love at first sight. I am currently a junior at Hilton High School, I play for the school soccer team, I am a Girl Scout, Greece Police Explore and a Gates Junior Paramedic. In the coming years my goals would be to further my riding experience by learning from the people around me, to graduate high school and then go to college to study something in the law enforcement field.
